Get the size right the first time
Measure a garment you already own, compare it to the tables below, and if you are between sizes call us. We measure the actual bench sample rather than guessing.
How to measure
- Lay the garment flat on a table, buttoned or snapped, and smooth out wrinkles.
- Chest: measure across one inch below the armhole, seam to seam, and double it.
- Sleeve: from the center back of the collar, across the shoulder, to the cuff edge.
- Body length: from the base of the collar seam straight down to the hem.
- Compare to the table below. Our garments are cut for a work fit — roughly 4 in of ease at the chest.

Apron sizing
One regular length (34 in) fits most people from 5 ft 4 in to 6 ft. The tall cut (37 in) suits 6 ft 1 in and above. Straps adjust across a 14-inch range; if you need longer webbing, note it in the order comments and we will sew it at no charge.
Care that actually extends the life
- Wash cold, inside out, on a normal cycle. Hot water is what fades canvas unevenly.
- Skip fabric softener. It coats the cotton and slows the natural break-in.
- Tumble low or line dry. High heat is the leading cause of hem pucker on duck canvas.
- Do not bleach. For grease, rub in a drop of dish soap and let it sit twenty minutes before washing.
- Re-wax the Field Apron once a year. Warm the panel with a hair dryer, rub the bar in, hang overnight.
- Send it back before it tears through. A frayed seam is a ten-minute repair; a blown-out panel is a new garment.
Break-in timeline
Duck canvas is stiff on day one and that is intentional — the weave is dense enough that it needs about two weeks of wear to conform. Denim takes longer, roughly six weeks, and shows strap and pocket fades first. Brushed twill shirts are comfortable immediately and reach their softest state around the fourth wash. Nothing should shrink noticeably; all fabric is pre-washed before cutting.
Repairs
Two years, free, on anything we made. Email our shop with a photo, we send a prepaid label, Ray fixes it, we ship it back. Typical turnaround is nine business days. After two years we still repair — we just charge for materials and time, usually $15 to $40.
